Sound and Fury

For several years, I have used a peculiar method for generating names while worldbuilding. Using data from the Cross-Linguistic Onomatopoeias Wikipedia page, I used a script to combine sequences of consonants and vowels from a combination of sources into random words. This has been a little inconvenient, since my script has no GUI, and I had only prepared a few of the onomatopoeias for use: my main setting is dominated by the sounds of bees, frogs, birds, roosters, wolves, and, to a lesser extent, cannons. As such, I thought I would create an improved version, both for myself and anyone else. And here it is!

Results generated by this program have a similar vibe if they are generated by the same combination, but they do not fall within a specific constructed language or phonology. That is, in fact, the point. I prefer to worldbuild as though I am exploring a world that I do not know, and this method allows me to simulate the experience of staring at another language's romanized phonology, not quite understanding how to pronounce it but intuiting its vague outlines. I am excited to make use of the greatly expanded range of possibilities this method now affords; perhaps you will want to tinker with it as well!

Disclaimer: some of the categories are based on many words and therefore supply a lot of diverse phonology, while others are based on only a few words and, as such, are much more constrained.
